Redevelopment of the outdoor areas of a house in Uggiate

About This Project

The project was carried out at a private residence in Uggiate (CO), where the client needed to complete the external works, improving the functionality of the access points and the durability of the surfaces.
The main objective was to transform an outdoor space that was difficult to use into a safe, stable area suitable for both vehicles and pedestrians, which harmonised with the architectural context of the house.

From the existing condition to the completion of the works

Prior to the works, the access ramp to the garage and the area in front of the entrance consisted of contoured earth covered with turf.
Whilst aesthetically pleasing, this solution did not provide sufficient strength or stability to withstand vehicle traffic, particularly in wet or muddy conditions. Furthermore, the green area required ongoing maintenance.

These issues prompted the client to request a complete refurbishment of the outdoor area, with the aim of achieving functionality, safety and long-term durability.

Following a thorough analysis of the existing conditions, a scheme was designed for external paving using natural stone, chosen for its aesthetic appeal, resistance to weathering and ease of maintenance.
The new sub-base was constructed using a reinforced concrete screed, designed to withstand vehicular loads and ensure long-term stability.

The access ramp to the garage was completely rebuilt in concrete with a herringbone finish, a technique that offers excellent grip, safety even in wet conditions and efficient drainage of rainwater.
This solution combines functionality and design, maintaining a understated aesthetic consistent with the architecture of the house.

To complete the project, the external staircase leading to the ground floor was reshaped and clad with the same stone used for the paving.
The decision to standardise the materials has created a sense of continuity in both texture and colour between the various elements, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal and highlighting the main façade of the house.

Final result

The project has improved the usability of the outdoor spaces, transforming an unstable and difficult-to-use surface into durable and safe paving that ensures comfort of use in all seasons. The choice of natural materials and coordinated finishes has transformed a service area into a well-appointed and attractive space that blends harmoniously with the residential surroundings and enhances the aesthetic appeal of the home.
